JavaScript used to open a Pop-up Window only once per visit to your Site.

Pop-up Windows are managed by this Script so that
  • The pop-up window is displayed only once per visit.
  • Location of Pop-up on the screen can be specifically set (most browsers).




This script uses a cookie that is saved in memory to keep the pop-up from opening more than one time. The cookie remains in memory until your browser is closed.

Here I have set up a few buttons so that you can test this pop-up to see how it works. Understand that even though you can reset the pop-up here, this will not be available on your page and your visitors will only see the pop-up once per visit.

Instructions for demo above

  • Clicking on "Pop Up" the first time will display a pop-up window that will stay open until you close it.
  • Close the window and click on "Pop-up" again and no window will be displayed, no matter how many times you click on "Pop Up"
  • Click on one of links at the bottom of this page. Return to this page and the pop-up will not open again.
  • Clicking on "Reset" will allow you to reset cookie and have a pop-up the first time you click on "Pop-up" again (same as closing your browser).
  • Clicking on "In Back" will open the window in the back of the main browser.
  • Clicking on "Display cookie" will display the information in the cookie. If the cookie has been reset, then there will be no information displayed.

For this Demo, don't forget that you must
     (1) close the Pop-up window and
     (2) click on the "Reset" button
to get a Pop-up to display when you click on either the "Pop-up" or "In Back" button.

Additional Information About Script:
This pop-up script will display a pop-up window one time and will not display it again until your browser is shut down. Therefore, the pop-up will only display one time when someone visits your site.

The cookie used here is only available in your computer's memory. It is not written to your hard drive. That is the reason it goes away when someone shuts down their browser.

Most people will use this script to open a pop-up window when someone either enters a page or leaves the page. Instructions for doing that are included below.

This Script is a modified version of the Pop-up Windows Script. Therefore, the procedures for controlling the location of the Pop-up Window are the same.
